Martinique or Guadeloupe ? Where are the most beautiful beaches in Martinique

Best coast in Martinique, best place to stay in Martinique, best beaches ?

Which coast should I choose for my stay in Martinique? That was the first question I asked myself when I decided to spend a week with my husband on this little jewel island of the caribbean.

Montagne pelée, the tropical forest, the steep mountains, the jagged cliffs, the beautiful beaches with dream lagoons… Martinique Island had always made me dream! Unlike most French people who go there in winter, we went there on a whim in the middle of August knowing full well that we could have some big tropical storms. But when the desire is there….

As always, before booking my hotel, I did some research to answer the questions: Which coast to choose for an ideal stay in Martinique? Where are the most beautiful beaches in Martinique? What is the best place to stay in Martinique? Which are the wildest, calmest, most authentic coasts of Martinique?

Thus, I was able to choose my hotel on the most beautiful place of Martinique according to my criteria. I let you discover it below but already indicates that my choice proved to be relevant!

Which coast in Martinique? Location and geography

This Caribbean island owes its beauty in part to the great variety of its reliefs and natural landscapes. As for reliefs, to make it simple, I will schematize by dividing Martinique into 2 parts: North and south.

Which coast in Martinique – The North of the island

The North of Martinique is the most remote part of the island with its mountains, volcanic massifs, huge banana plantations and beautiful pineapple plantations. The tropical forest and mountainous massifs with, in particular, the volcano “La montagne pelée” are landscapes that attract tourists who love nature, extreme sports, trekking….

Which coast in Martinique – The North Atlantic coast

The North Atlantic coast is located in the northeast of the island. It is also called “côte au vent”. It is a coast where the ocean rages with tumultuous waves that attack the steep and volcanic hills. As its nickname suggests, it is a coast where the wind reigns supreme in a wild and wild nature.

Which coast in Martinique – The North Caribbean coast

Unlike the east of northern Martinique, the beaches of the North Caribbean Coast (located to the west) are calmer. A succession of small bays with calm and clear waters follow one another between pretty little fishing villages.

Which coast in Martinique – The South of the island

The South of Martinique has a flatter relief with its hills, its famous dull hills and its magnificent bays and superb beaches.

One of the Best beaches in Martinique

The southern Caribbean coast is located in the southwest of Martinique. It benefits from the calm blue waters of the Caribbean Sea which offer a panoramic view of white sandy beaches with coconut palms and turquoise waters. From the Trois-Ilets to the Anses d’Arlet, from Rocher du Diamant to the beach plage des Salines, the southern Caribbean is a paradise for tourists looking for heavenly beaches.

Which coast in Martinique – The South Atlantic coast

The south Atlantic coast located in the southeast of Martinique includes Le Vauclin, the presqu’ile de la Caravelle, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François. This coast is bordered by turquoise waters and protected by a coral reef with incredible white bottoms. It is here that the famous Josephine Bathtub in the bay of François or the many small islets of Robert is located. This coast is less touristy than the southern Caribbean coast and therefore calmer and quieter.

You may have understood it, it is on this coast that I chose my hotel…

Best place to stay in Martinique – Le François on the south east coast

Located in the east of the island, facing the Atlantic Ocean, Le François is a village surrounded by sugar cane and banana plantations. Its main tourist attraction is its shallow bay, which is protected by a coral reef on white sand bottoms (Josephine bathtub) and faces 8 magnificent small islets.

Le François is therefore an ideal place for lovers of heavenly beaches and tourists looking to relax in a calm and relaxing atmosphere where a gentle lifestyle is the priority.

Best place to stay in Martinique – Which hotel to choose?

After having found the ideal coast for a relaxing stay in Martinique, it was more complicated to find a hotel that meets my desires. Indeed, I absolutely wanted to find a hotel on a beautiful beach in a nice setting. Of course it had to be comfortable, clean and have a good restaurant.

Best place to stay in Martinique – Cap Est Lagoon Resort & Spa

Here is the hotel that met my expectations and that I recommend with my eyes closed: The Cap Est Lagoon Resort & Spa

In a tropical garden setting, facing a magnificent beach, we spent a week in a relaxed, calm and relaxing atmosphere. Due to lack of funds, we were not lucky enough to enjoy the suites with private swimming pool but our room was very pleasant because it was spacious and well decorated. The breakfasts were varied and delicious!

The only criticism I could make of this hotel is that it is a little old-fashioned and that a little youthfulness would not hurt it… Otherwise everything was perfect! Especially its geographical location because I had studied the place well… and I was really not disappointed! More information on Booking
