Itinerary Bogota to Desert of Tatacoa – My route map
Our journey by the road from Bogota to Villavieja
7:00 am: We leave from Bogota with Carlos our private driver in an air conditioned and spacious van for 6h drive.
The big problem is the exit from Bogota. Indeed, the capital has no metro or tram, suddenly, there is a lot of buses that circulate in all directions … and which together with the many other vehicles, endless plugs. We will take almost 1 hour to get out of the city!
En route, we have time to admire the landscape and observe the diversity of crops in the HUILA region: sorghum, cassava, sugar cane, rice, cotton, corn and fruits.
Cheap hotel in the Tatacoa desert
In the early afternoon, we arrive in Villavieja where I booked a hotel via Booking that I chose of course for its proximity to the desert of Tatacoa! We will stay 2 nights at the Hotel Colonial where we were received like princes.
What I liked about the hotel Colonial
- The welcome, kindness and availability of staff;
- The coffee we are offered on demand;
- The inner courtyard where we had very good breakfasts;
- Air conditioning that is essential in this desert ;
- The calm and relaxing side of this place;
- The ballet of hummingbirds in the course of the hotel!
What I would have liked at the Hotel Colonial
With the heat it made, of course a swimming pool would have been appreciated … But with the price of the night at 38 Euros, we have no right to moan!
