Since I knew that hotels are very expensive in Australia, I booked hotels for my tour as soon as possible. So I could have more choices in terms of dates but especially I was able to access the best prices. Thus, my trip being scheduled for August 2019, I took my plane tickets at the end of January 2019 and booked my cheap hotels in February 2019. So, I still found on all of my Australia tour tips for cheap hotels!
For all the cheap hotels that I selected in Australia, I favored the good location, cleanliness, comfort and sanitary in the room.

Cheap hotels in Australia – Sydney Days 1 – 2
It must be understood that it is not easy to find a decent and well located hotel in the center of Sydney for a price below 100 Euros per night. But as I took it well in advance, there were still some good plans. The City Lodge Hotel seems, indeed, to be a great value for money.
Its main asset is its location. Indeed, located in the central business district of Sydney, its location is very central with Winyard station which allows direct access to the airport. In addition, located between the two main avenues Pitts Street and Georges Street, it is only 15 minutes walk from the famous Sydney Opera House. From this hotel you can also walk to Circular Quays, the Rocks and the harbor in just 10 minutes walk!
Admittedly, its decoration looks a little old but a kitchen and a dining area are available in the common areas (handy for the evening when you are too tired to go to the restaurant).
Cheap Hotels in Australia – Brisbane Day 3
Located 5 minutes from Brisbane Airport and 10 minutes drive from the city center, its location suited me very well for a simple stopover hotel before my road trip. Indeed, I will arrive at Brisbane airport in the evening and take the rental car to the airport for a departure the next day to Herbey Bay. In addition, this cheap hotel has advantages that convinced me: saltwater pool, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, barbecue area, outdoor lounge and free parking.
Cheap hotels in Australia – Hervey Bay Days 4 – 5
At Hotel Buzers, I chose a luxury studio with queen-size bed, en suite bathroom, kitchenette with kettle, toaster and microwave.
Boasting a beautiful seafront location on a shopping street in the Torquay area of Hervey Bay, this hotel features a pool and BBQ on a beautiful terrace. In addition, free parking and bike rental service directly at the hotel.
Cheap Hotels in Australia – Hervey Bay Days 6 – 7
I chose to change hotels for the last 2 days in Hervey Bay to get closer to the departure port for excursions to Fraser Island. Situated between Gympie and Bundaberg, Hervey’s Bay Motel offers a perfect location for exploring the Fraser Coast.
In addition, its environment is beautiful (tropical gardens) and it gives directly on the beach of Shelly. Its value for money is exceptional for its benefits (beautiful pool, restaurant, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, kitchenette, spa …).
Cheap Hotels in Australia – Rockhampton Day 8
A simple stopover on our way to Airlie Beach, I picked this hotel because it is cheap and only 8 minutes walk from the Allenstown Mall (convenient for our small errands). In addition there is a swimming pool free parking. Rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster and an en suite bathroom.
Cheap hotels in Australia – Airlie Beach Days 9 – 10 – 11
Very well located with direct access to the lagoon of Airlie Beach, this self-catering unit has air conditioning, kitchenette, free Wi-Fi, swimming pool and parking space. Convenient to go to the islands as the tour desk offers to book tours to the Great Barrier Reef. For Airlie Beach where hotels are quite expensive, this address is among the cheapest …
Cheap hotels in Australia – Cairns Days 12 – 13
Here is a very good cheap hotel address in Cairns. This hotel is within a 10-minute walk of the main attractions: Cairns Pier (for Great Barrier Reef Cruise departures) and Cairns City Center. The rooms are simple and basic but the hotel has a large swimming pool, barbecue, self-service laundry, 2 communal kitchens and free parking!
Cheap hotels in Australia – Port Douglas Days 14 and 15
This is the most expensive hotel on my tour. This is easily explained when you consider that Port Douglas is considered the Saint Tropez of Australia!
The location of this hotel is perfect: just 50 meters from the restaurants and shops of Macrossan Street and only 3 minutes walk from Four Mile Beach. With pool, parking, garden, the studio I booked is air-conditioned and very well equipped.
Cheap hotels in Australia – Cairns Day 16
Simple hotel step, I chose this hotel because it is cheap and located very close to the airport. Indeed, the next day, we have to take the plane the next morning at 5:50.
However, we still enjoy some benefits: swimming pool, air conditioning, microwave, refrigerator, kettle, private bathroom, free Wi-Fi.

This is my last cheap hotel on my Australian tour. It is conveniently located in the center of Darwin, a 10-minute walk from Parap Village Markets, the Art Museum, shops and restaurants.
The air-conditioned rooms feature free Wi-Fi, a private balcony, en suite bathroom, refrigerator and tea / coffee making facilities.
