Today from Salento we will explore the coffee region by visiting a coffee finca and the beautiful city of Filandia with its colorful houses.

Coffee region in Colombia – How to get from Salento to Filandia
From Salento, the most practical is to take a famous Jeep Willis on the village square. These vehicles ensure all day journeys between Salento, Cocora Valley, Filandia, Pereira, Armenia … The Salento-Filandia way takes about fifty minutes and costs 10,000 COP per person (about 3 €).
Otherwise, you can also take 2 buses (bus station down the main street of Salento). The 1st (direction Pereira or Armenia) will drop you off at the Tres Cruces stop. It will then take another bus to Filandia (6,000 COP).

Large wooden tower which allows to have a beautiful point of view (8 000 COP) on the village and its surroundings. But I was warned that it was not that spectacular … so I preferred to spend more time in the village than upstairs.

That’s my favorite thing about Filandia? Take a stroll to contemplate these beautiful colorful facades, to observe the Colombians, to feel the atmosphere of the village.

On the way to the watchtower, you can discover the houses of artisans, see them work and buy souvenirs directly. They work in particular guadua which is a kind of bamboo very strong and resistant.

Filandia is known for its traditional basketry, activity related to the coffee harvest. You can visit the museum-gallery which is Calle 6 square 5 (free visit).
