Eilean Donan Castle is on the edge of the loch just before the Skye Bridge. It has become a mythical castle since the shooting of Highlander in and around its walls …

1 day tour in Isle of Skye – Tour under the fog

Dream, feel, live the Isle of Skye …

I knew that it is rare to find sun on this island but I did not expect to meet so much fog in the middle of the day and in the middle of August! Our first contact is under a thick mist, wet and invading that chills us from head to toe. As much to say to you that it was out of the question to engage us in a hike!

We decided to follow the coast from south to north by the A87, stopping quickly to enjoy the main views and take some pictures.

1 day tour in Isle of Skye – What to see?

We then cross the island by the B884 road to reach another point of view (the most western point of the island): Neist Point. The site is superb and the lighthouse seems lost at the end of the world …

It was noon and I had recorded in restaurants not to miss the Red Roof Cafe. It is therefore in a place in the middle of nowhere lost in a wild and almost hostile nature that we find this very small restaurant. We tasted organic products and traditional charcuterie. The desserts (huge portions) were delicious.

Then direction Portree to go up the coast and arrive at the famous site of the Old Man of Storr. The mist is so thick that you can not see more than 5 meters. In an incredibly mysterious and intimidating atmosphere, we distinguish and guess the shapes of this mythical rock.

It is a little disappointed by the bad weather that we return to Portree for the night.

1 day tour in Isle of Skye – Where to sleep on Skye?

The houses are few and quite expensive on the Isle of Skye. At 150 Euros per night, the hotel we had booked was thankfully pretty good.

Just 10 minutes from the center of Portree, the Creagory Skye enjoys a beautiful location and offers simple, large and clean rooms. Little more? The kindness of the owners and the breakfast that boosted us and gave us the smile to start the morning in the usual greyness …
